Position Overview
The Facilities Operator is responsible for the daily operation, upkeep, and readiness of a basketball gym facility. This role ensures that courts, equipment, and common areas are clean, safe, and fully functional to support practices, games, events, and training sessions. The ideal candidate is dependable, hands-on, and takes pride in maintaining a high-quality athletic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Operations
Open and close the facility according to scheduled hours and event needs.
Prepare basketball courts for practices, games, leagues, camps, and special events.
Monitor facility usage to ensure rules, safety policies, and capacity limits are followed.
Set up and break down equipment, including hoops, scoreboards, shot clocks, chairs, tables, and signage.
Maintenance & Cleanliness
Maintain cleanliness of courts, locker rooms, restrooms, spectator areas, and offices.
Perform routine inspections of floors, lighting, nets, backboards, doors, and seating.
Conduct minor repairs and basic maintenance; report larger issues to management or vendors.
Ensure court floors are properly cleaned and maintained to prevent injury.
Safety & Security
Enforce safety procedures and respond promptly to hazards or incidents.
Ensure emergency exits are clear and safety equipment is accessible.
Assist with basic incident reporting and coordination during injuries or facility emergencies.
Monitor building security and assist with crowd control during busy periods or events.
Customer & Team Support
Provide courteous assistance to players, coaches, officials, parents, and guests.
Communicate effectively with staff regarding schedules, facility needs, and issues.
Support tournaments, leagues, rentals, and special events as needed.
Represent the gym in a professional and welcoming manner at all times.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Facilities, custodial, event setup, or athletic facility experience preferred (basketball or sports environment a plus).
Skills & Abilities:
Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, moving equipment, and standing for extended periods.
Basic maintenance and problem-solving skills.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification a plus (or willingness to obtain).
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Indoor athletic facility with occasional exposure to loud noise and crowds.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move athletic equipment safely.
